RELATIONSHIPS
Noctis Lucis Caelum Liege. Friend. Brother. Hater-of-veggies-everywhere. Ignis took up his duty to care for and guide Noctis at age six and has never looked back no matter how difficult times have become. He doesn't regret losing his vision because he lost it in service to Noctis. He merely worries he will no longer be able to perform the duty he's devoted his whole life to. Noctis is his light and his dawn, and he will give everything he has to ensure the prince regains his kingdom and fulfills his destiny.
Prompto Argentum Noct's partner-in-crime. Shutterbug. Mom Jr. Baby chocobo-in-disguise. Prompto and Ignis' relationship didn't really fully form until after the advisor lost his vision. Once that happened, Prompto stepped up to give him the kind of support he really needed at the time, and even stood up against Gladio to fight for Ignis' right to choose if he stayed with the group. It was a trying time they both came out of stronger for the bond that developed.
Nyx Ulric Sent home. Rest well, Hero. Kingsglaive. Hero. Mentor. Friend. While there was much Gladio could teach Ignis about fighting, their very different fighting styles left him without someone to learn the fine details from. This problem was solved when King Regis assigned Nyx to help the teen, since Nyx's fighting style and weapon choice was similar to Ignis'. At first, their very different personalities clashed, but they found common ground one day when it came out that due to the advisor's birth outside of Insomnia, he actually faced much of the same discrimination that the Galahdian refugee did. The discrimination just happened more quietly due to Ignis' close ties to the royal family. They grew beyond mentor and student to friends and trained regularly until their duties finally pulled them separate ways. (OOC NOTE: This is shared headcanon. Questions? Just give me a poke!)
Ardyn Izunia/Ardyn Lucis Caelum Accursed. Healer. Monster in the Dark. My Little Monster. Well, isn't this a fine mess we've gotten ourselves into? When the Chancellor first arrived, Ignis' primary goal was to keep an eye on him and keep him away from Noctis no matter what the cost. Even though what little he remembered of Altissia and his blinding centered on Ardyn to the degree that the man was causing him nightmares and driving him into near panics, Ignis still stood up to him, engaging him in several very biting conversations as he looked for something to be used against the man should he moved to hurt Noctis in any way. What Ignis didn't expect to find, though, were the flashes of the Healer who once was. What he never imagined possible was Ardyn dying to save his own life. Complicated doesn't even begin to describe this relationship, especially with the effects of Monsun's unique topography bringing more and more of the Healer-King who once was to the surface.

POWERS |
- WEAPON SUMMONING: As a member of the prince's retinue, Ignis has access to the royal armory which is just a fancy name for canon's version of hammerspace. Just about anything can be put in there, which really defeats the purpose of being in a survival game when it comes down to it. As such, I'm limiting what he can access from the armory to his trusty pair of daggers, linked below. As in game circumstances dictate, he can be cut off from this which would keep him from being able to dismiss or summon his daggers until the link is restored. Edit: As of his canon update in Jan, Ignis now has this spear also stored in the armory for summoning.
- ANALYZE/LIBRA: This is a very basic skill that allows Ignis to uncover strengths and weaknesses of an enemy target. How much he can learn depends on how long he spends channeling the skill, and it is very possible for the skill to fail completely or return very limited information if an enemy is strong enough.
- REGROUP: In canon, this ability calls all party members back to Ignis' location and imparts a regenerative and critical hit boost at the same time. For game purposes, I would like the ability to be altered so that it applies a 10 second regeneration buff and also raises the moral of those around him. As actually moving everyone to his location is not feasible, I would like the effect of the skill to hit an area approximately 15 feet around him. Bad side of this? It's going to draw the attention of both friend and foe to him. Oops!
- SPELLBOUND DAGGERS: This skill grants Ignis ability to imbue his daggers with elements. Each element has a specific focus when used in battle:
Flamebind: Imbues his daggers with fire. While the flames can't set anything on fire, they do deal high damage to single targets and would do extra damage to anything with a fire weakness.
Frostbind: Imbues his daggers with ice. While the ice can't freeze anything in place, it does do AOE damage allowing him to hit multiple targets gathered around him. It would also do extra damage to anything with an ice weakness.
Stormbind: Imbues his daggers with lightning. Damage is not the main focus of this binding. Instead, it allows Ignis to close the distance between himself and a target very quickly. Consider it a weaker version of the warping that Noctis and the Kingsglaive use. It would also do extra damage to anything with an electrical weakness.

ABILITIES |
- DRIVING: Ignis has been driving the prince and other members of the group around since he first learned how and takes the responsibility very seriously, to the point that in canon he refuses to drive after dark due to the increased danger of daemons spawning on the road.
- COOKING: Ignis has been cooking since he was ten years old, and because of that, he is not only highly skilled at it in a variety of settings, but also in creating his own recipes from whatever can be found around him.
- FIRST AID/GENERAL SURVIVAL SKILLS: While Gladio has trained much more thoroughly on these topics than Ignis has, his need to prepare for any eventuality means he has made sure to learn at least basic survival and first aid skills. Having magical curatives is great, but what happens when those run out?
- TRAINED TACTICIAN/STRATEGIST: Ignis started at age six preparing to be Noctis' advisor and strategist. Making plans and finding the good in a difficult situation is as easy as breathing most of the time, even if his lack of real world experience sometimes means the plan is as simple as 'Stay out the light and don't get caught.'
- DUAL DAGGER USE/THROWING DAGGER USE: Daggers are Ignis' primary weapon. He is so comfortable using them that they feel like they are an extension of himself. When able to summon from the armory, Ignis uses a pair of daggers that look like this. He also carries a pair of normal throwing knives on himself on the off chance he is unable to summon his daggers from the armory.
- POLEARM USE: Ignis' secondary weapons are polearms of all sorts. He can use them almost as well as his daggers, but will default to daggers whenever he has the option.
- GENERAL FIGHTING SKILL: Unlike Gladio who favors strength in his fighting style, Ignis' fighting style focuses on acrobatics and quick movement. Flips, cartwheels, and daring leaps over his teammates weapons allow him to duck in and out of close combat so that he can be where he is needed most as the team's primary healer. Obviously, this form of fighting is going to be mostly unusable now that he has been blinded, but that doesn't mean the reflexes and reaction times aren't still there should he have enough warning to use them.
- SPECIFIC FIGHTING SKILLS:
High Jump: Ignis channels his inner dragoon and jumps up really high. What goes up, must come down and landing does a small amount of AOE damage just from the force of the blow. This is a non-magical attack and requires a spear to do.
Total Clarity: In canon, this skill literally magically multiplies Ignis' attack allowing him to hit multiple targets at once due to extreme focus. For use in game, I would like to alter it to a more 'realistic' and 'non-magical' form that allows him to strike several quick blows to nearby enemies in the time it would take a normal person to strike one. This attack requires total focus to pull off--even more so after losing his vision--and as a result, will be too tiring to do more than once per battle and twice per day should he be involved in more than one battle a day.

WEAKNESSES |
- BLINDNESS: (Content warning: eye injury description) The Ring of the Lucii, passed down through the line of Lucian Kings since they began their rule, asks the highest of prices from those who dare put it on without being of royal blood. Even when the wearer's cause is deemed worthy by the Kings of Old, their power is not freely given. In exchange for the power to protect an unconscious Noctis from Ardyn in Altissia, Ignis didn't think twice about remaining true to the oath he swore long ago to keep Noctis safe no matter what the cost. In exchange for the power to temporarily go head-to-head with the Immortal Accursed, Ignis traded the sense that meant the most to him--his vision.
While both of his eyes remain intact, as his left heals, the scarring seems to seal it shut making it either difficult or impossible for him to open. The right eye is clouded white with injury and little of the original color remains. He can see nothing currently, though sometime during the 10 years Noctis sleeps in the crystal he does regain the ability to see shifts in light and dark. Or, so he claims. Considering he lied about what he saw last and never told anyone his injuries were caused by putting on the ring to protect Noctis, it's hard to tell if he was telling the truth about that or just--once more--lying to make things easier for his beloved King.
Until his body becomes used to his lack of vision, movement--especially quick movement--will often result in disorientation and vertigo. When the vertigo is strong enough, Ignis will also end up feeling nauseous. This doesn't help his appetite which is already diminished by the lingering pain of his injuries.
- PRIDE: Considering all Ignis has achieved in his 22 years of life, he has every right to be proud of those achievements. Very few can say they were appointed Royal Advisor at age six and fewer still can say that on top of those duties they also managed to care not just for themselves, but also the prince who was put into their keeping. Doing all this required Ignis to have very strong control over every aspect of his life and it's something he learned to do without question. It's something he excelled at, in fact.
That all changes when his vision is taken from him. Ignis has spent his whole life preparing to aid Noctis, and now he has no idea if he will be able to continue doing that. While he doesn't regret his decision to put on the ring to save Noctis, he is quickly learning he didn't think his plan all the way through. He didn't realize how much losing his sight would not only impact him, but the rest of the group as well. In fact, this emotionally charged action begins to do the one thing he would never have wanted it to do--tear his little family apart.
- MENTAL TRAUMA: When Ignis originally came into game, he remembered very little about how he lost his vision. He knew he was pinned down to the street by MTs and that Chancellor Izunia was there mocking him. It only makes sense, then, that he ended fixating on Ardyn and the man's role in his injury. Nightmares, panic attacks, and assumptions followed as Ignis desperately tried to fill the gaps in his memory.
After canon updating, Ignis finds that much of the trauma and helplessness he imagined to fill in the gaps was actually incorrect. The Chancellor may have had the upper hand and was threatening Noctis' very life, but it was Ignis' choice to put on the Ring of the Lucii sacrificing his vision in order to protect his charge. Not only that, he ended up fighting the Chancellor toe-to-toe, eventually driving him away (though Ardyn, ever the showman, claims he only grew bored of the battle). It may have cost him his vision to do it, but Ignis stood up to the Accursed and stayed true to his oath. No more is he going to fixate on what the Chancellor did or didn't do to him. No more is he going to fear and panic that he might have his control taken away from him again. In the end, Ignis made his own choices that day and he doesn't regret them. He was the one in control.
This doesn't mean he isn't going to have more metal trauma to sort through. Ignis has been very strongly focused on finding a way to make sure Noctis survives doing his duty as King of Light. However, in remembering the events of Altissia, he is going to find that many of his plans have been rendered invalid, and one has already been tried and failed. It's a helplessness of a new kind he will be facing and not only that, he is going to have to deal with seeing first hand that Prompto wasn't exaggerating when he mentioned the way that his new disability affects the team.
All sacrifices have consequences and selfless as he is, Ignis never realized how very far the consequences of his lost vision would reach. And that is without the guys knowing the truth of how he was injured.
Astrals forbid they ever find out...
- SELF-SACRIFICE: It might seem odd to call a 22 year old man a 'nurturing soul,' but it is a trait that Ignis has had in abundance since childhood. Taking care of Noctis as he does was never a part of his official duties, and it doesn't even becomes so when Regis requests he look after Noctis as a teen because Regis asks the favor, not as a king, but as a father who knows the small amount of time he is able to give to his beloved son is about to become even smaller. Ignis doesn't hesitate in accepting the request, just as he didn't hesitate to fill the void left by the death of Noctis' mother.
Self-sacrifice and devotion are usually good traits, but much like with everything else in his life, Ignis over-achieves here too. He fits taking care of Noctis into an already packed schedule, sacrificing sleep and free time to get everything done. He's often seen drinking Ebony, a brand of black coffee, as a substitute for sleep. Though it all, he never complains and even seems to enjoy the results of his efforts, feeling great pride every time Noctis excels. Pride alone can't keep a person going, though, when they are putting so much into another and not enough into themselves, but Ignis never lets that stop him. He bottles up his own emotions as so to never be a burden on those he's worked so hard to help. A short time after his current canon point, he will even say that his lost vision is a small sacrifice in the face of everything else that is going on. Lets repeat that. Losing his vision is a small sacrifice. There is something wrong with that. Even if he is trying to hide how much his loss is hurting him, Ignis shouldn't be blowing it off as if it were nothing. It gets even worse when he insists that he should be allowed to come with the group as they hunt for one of the Royal Arms shortly after he is blinded. He literally goes blind into battle because he feels he can handle it and needs to be there. One can argue that the whole scene is more about working together to not leave a disabled teammate behind, but at the same time being so willing to walk into a dangerous situation makes it clear that Ignis doesn't think enough about his own well-being, and instead is overly focused on finding someway to remain helpful to those he's spent so much time caring for.
